Liverpool to host top UK pandemic scientists this September

Some of the UK’s top pandemic scientists will gather this September for a two-day meeting hosted by The Pandemic Institute. The UK Pandemic Sciences Network Meeting will take place on the 5th and 6th September 2023 at the Spine.

The UK Pandemic Sciences Network (UKPSN) brings together leading universities and pandemic science research teams to support the delivery of the 100 days mission and improve pandemic preparedness both in the UK and globally. The ultimate purpose of the network is to help protect people and society from epidemic and pandemic infectious diseases through scientific discovery and innovation.

As well as talks on recent responses to diseases such as flu and monkey pox, the meeting will explore topics such as how we effectively communicate about research during a pandemic. The BBC’s Fergus Walsh will be speaking alongside representatives from across the network, including the University of Liverpool’s Professor Calum Semple. There will also be a session exploring how Liverpool engaged with its civic, industry and clinical partners in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
